Information for young people about Independent Visitors

image of a friend just for you

An Independent Visitor (IV) is a specially trained adult who is there to offer friendship, fun and support to looked after children and young people. IVs are 'independent' which means they are nothing to do with your social worker or carers - they are there just for YOU.

IVs meet up with their matched young person once a month. Visits might include going to the cinema, bowling, a walk in the park, whatever you both enjoy doing.

If you would like to have an IV, have a chat with your social worker or you can contact us directly on 01480 437953 alison.black@nyas.net.

What do young people who've got an IV say about them?

"He always listens to what I have to say"

"We always have a laugh!!"

"Some people think that it's not cool to have an IV, but I like it because she only knows about the 'other stuff' if I choose to tell her."

"She's my IV, nobody else's - just for ME"
