Got any ideas...about how to make Child Protection Conference better?

If you would like to be interviewed about what you think, or would like to be involved in running a day about how we can make Child Protection Conferences (CPC) more friendly for young people let Caz know. We are looking for young people to tell social workers, and others involved with these meetings how to make them better. Please email Caz - or call on 01223 717734

"A Time for Change" there is a new piece of law coming out about young people in care its called 'A time for change - care matters'. Its got lots of good ideas about how to make life better for you in care. One of the ideas is that each local authority has to write a pledge, or a promise as we like to call it, to their young people in care. At the Just Us groups we have been putting some ideas together about what we would like to be in the promise, please have a look and if you have any ideas please let me know thanks Caz

Wisbech Just Us group Pledge

Huntingdon Just Us group Pledge

Remember the JAR? Back in January this year some of you came to Godmanchester and met with some inspectors. The inspector also came along to the Cambridge Just Us meeting in order to hear young people views. She asked lots of questions about what you thought about Cambridgeshire Local Authority and how well or not it supported you being in care. She asked you about your social workers and reviews and making complaints and stuff? Well this inspector was from the JAR (joint area review) she has now written her report based on what you said and listening to social workers and managers and other people involved in the service.

Here it is if you have any comments please contact Caz

Question Time... We had another Question time at Hinchingbrooke House, in Huntingdon on 29 November, where young people asked the adults questions about the kinds of changes they want to see. A report on what happened will be here soon... look out!!

Independent Visitors & Advocacy Services ... We have chosen a new advocacy and independent visitor service. We want to know if they come up to scratch. You told us your views - and you were involved in choosing who would give us the service. We have kept a record of what you said you wanted - when you have had the chance to use them tell us what you think - please email Caz

Reviews... Training for Young People

We are running training for Foster Carers, Social Workers and Young People - on 20 February 2008 and 17 June 2008. This training is based on our sessions in May 2007. We put together all the ideas about how to get the best out of your review. If you would like to be involved in running the training for social workers and foster carers and young people just tell Caz

Social Worker Appraisals ..

LILAC - Lifelong Improvement for Looked-After Children

LILAC is a great new idea where children who have been in care themselves are trained to become Inspectors of Local Authorities Care Services for Children. Led by "A National Voice" a group of young people who have left care LILAC inspections will be looking to see how Local authorities involve looked-after children in planning and evaluating their own care. If you want to know more just call Caz
